Monkey bussiness

The new government of Puerto Rico is allowing the construction of a "Monkey Factory"--the company BioCulture--where these highly inlelligent and social beings are going to be bred and kept in captivity all their lives with the only purpose of selling them to laboratories to perform painful procedures on them causing them suffering and even death.

This is frankly--disgusting! I don't know if there's a petition site to vote against this barbaric practice but when I find one, i will post it here.

This so called Monkey Factory doesn't help at all this island's general sensitivity and respect to animal lives. People must think, "If the government doesn't care, why should we? Well--this is comletely wrong!!! The fact that the government and the police authorities don't care if animal mistreatment is a crime, don't make it right.

If you're againt this, please search the internet and let the government of Puerto Rico and the Tourism Company know that this is bad for the animals and the image of the island.

Sandra, you are absolutely right. People look to their government for cues on how to form their beliefs. And this move by the PR government to allow such a disgusting, barbaric facility is, quite frankly, exactly what I would have expected. It's so sad to say that so many actions of PR's government and people - cockfighting, incredible animal abuse, and now this horrible facility - all seem to fit to their approval of animal abuse. Children are being brought up into this culture of cruelty.

Here is the PETA site for info to send a message to the PR government to urge them to stop the building of this facility:

OTHER PROBLEM WOULD BE--WHAT IF THE MONKEYS ESCAPE?. THAT ALREADY HAPPENED MORE THAN 30 YEARS AGO IN LAJAS, PR AND NOW THE MONKEYS ARE IN THE WILD WITH FARMERS SHOOTING AT THEM ALL THE TIME--AND PEOPLE THINK THIS IS ACCEPTABLE!
